Bernard (Barney) eventually settled in Hudson County\, NJ and served in the Union army during the Civil War at age 35. He married Catherine McTigue and eventually settled in Warren County where his Son Frank came to Hackettstown and married Honor Grogan. Their son William married Lena Reidinger and settled on Liberty St in Hackettstown (then referred to as Little Dublin) where Shawn’s father William Jr (Grand Marshal 2016) was born and raised. \nShawn was born the 6 th of 7 children to William and Agnes Burke in Denville NJ. They originally lived in Rockaway NJ before moving back to his father’s hometown of Hackettstown in 1965. Shawn attended St Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Hackettstown High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and earned 8 Varsity letters in Football\, Wrestling and Track\, where Shawn was also a proud member and Co-Captain of the 1981 State Champion Football team. In 1982\, Shawn was appointed to and attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point\, New York\, where he graduated in 1986 with a degree in Marine Transportation and a commission as an officer in the US Naval Reserves. He has had a 40-year career in the Maritime Industry where he currently holds the position of North Atlantic Operations Manager for NYK Line in Secaucus. \nShawn has served his community as a little league umpire\, and as a volunteer coach for both the Hackettstown Wrestling Club and Hackettstown Recreation Baseball. He was a 15-year member of the Hackettstown Planning / Land Use Board and is currently in his 15 th year as a Member of the Hackettstown Board of Education. Shawn also is in his 16 th year as color commentator for Hackettstown Tiger Football on our hometown Radio Station WRNJ. \nShawn lives in Hackettstown with his lovely wife of 29 years\, Alice\, and their 5 children: Emily\, Shawn Jr.\, Zebulon\, Liam and Samson. He is very honored to be selected as the Grand Marshal for Hackettstown’s 2026 St Patrick’s Day Parade and is eternally grateful for the overwhelming support from our great community.\nErin Go Bragh!

DESCRIPTION:The 17th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade will be Sunday\, March 8\, 2026. This Irish-American tradition attracts thousands of visitors—making this parade one of the biggest events in Hackettstown. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will kick off at 3:30 pm with numerous participants including Irish dance groups\, Irish bands\, community groups\, bagpipes and drums\, Centenary University and Hackettstown High School teams and clubs\, Surrounding area fire departments and rescue squads\, as well as hometown favorites Junior and Senior Colonial Musketeers and the Hackettstown Community Band. The parade takes place on Main Street from Grand Avenue to Warren Street. \nWe have a QUIET SENSORY ZONE for those who are sensitive to noise.  This location will be marked by bright colored lawn signs – It will start at W. Plane Street and go to Center Street. PLEASE NO SIRENS\, LOUD NOISE\, MUSIC\, BEEPING\, REEVING ETC. in this zone.  \nThe parade is pet-friendly\, with a special pet Irish Costume Contest sponsored by Doggie Styleash. Judging will be held at Czig Meister Brewing\, located at 106 Valentine St. starting at 3:30 pm sharp. DESCRIPTION:The Hackettstown Area Senior Hall of Fame was established in 1997 to recognize senior citizens in the Northwest New Jersey region who have made a significant impact on the lives of others in the community. The Senior Hall of Fame honorees are recognized during a celebration luncheon and ceremony in May\, which is Older Americans Month. This year’s luncheon will be held on Wednesday\, May 27th at David’s Country Inn in Hackettstown.  \nThe Hackettstown Area Senior Hall of Fame has inducted 274 members since its inception. This roster includes individuals from Warren County and adjacent parts of Hunterdon\, Morris and Sussex counties. We believe senior citizens are a vital group who contribute a great deal to their communities and society\, and we are honored to recognize those who have gone above and beyond in service to others. \nWe are happy to announce the  Class of 2026 Senior Hall of Fame.\n\nCarol and Bruce Hawthorne\nJames “Jim” Taylor\nElizabeth “Betsy” Hart & Dale Hart\nJosephine Noone\nFrancis X.
