Centenary University to Host Lecture with Futurist John Smart
Members of the Public are Invited to Gates-Ferry Visiting Lectureship
Centenary University’s Gates-Ferry Distinguished Visiting Lecturer and Futurist, John Smart, will conduct a presentation at 7 p.m. on February 28, 2018, at the Sitnik Theatre in the David and Carol Lackland Center. He will address the audience with the following presentation: “Tomorrow is in Your Hands: Creating an Amazing Future.” This event is free and open to the public.
“Tomorrow is in Your Hands: Creating an Amazing Future” will focus on our technological and general future in four key foresight areas. Each area will explore how to become better at the Three Ps of foresight, seeing both Probable and Possible futures, and then envisioning and creating Preferred futures, for ourselves, our teams, society, and all life on Earth.
John Smart is CEO of Foresight University, a strategic foresight learning and development company; Chairman of the Foresight Education and Research Network, an organization that improves practice for students and graduates of the 22 MS and PhD programs in strategic foresight globally; and President of the Acceleration Studies Foundation. He has lectured and given workshops on foresight, intelligence, entrepreneurship, and security for a wide range of university, corporation, and defense audiences.
He has published several next-gen IT foresight studies, on such topics as The Conversational Interface (2003), Human Performance Enhancement (2005), the Metaverse (Web 3.0), Roadmap (2008), and Open Internet TV (2010). Smart is a technical advisor at Next IT, a provider of intelligent virtual assistants (Spokane, WA), and at Wovyn, an internet of things provider (Salt Lake City, UT). Before turning to the foresight profession, he spent nine years as an entrepreneur, as CEO and co-founder of Hyperlearning, an educational services company sold to The Princeton Review in 1996. His book, The Foresight Guide: Anticipating, Creating and Managing in the 21st Century (2017) explores methods for improving personal and organizational strategic foresight which means improving our anticipation, innovation, and strategy in today’s rapidly-changing digital and entrepreneurial environment.
